Around His Table (Psalms 23:5)

read

Some of my most memorable moments revolve around a table, food, and the company of those who willingly share their lives with me. At the table, we can share our thoughts, listen, be heard, and truly connect with one another. However, I have also experienced many lonely and isolated times at a table—moments when I felt unknown or disconnected. During these times, the enemies of my soul, such as loneliness, rejection, boredom, isolation, and lack, seemed to overshadow everything else. These are the enemies that try and choke out faith. In those moments, I need to intentionally remember God’s promise: He said, “I set a table in the presence of your enemies.” He has demonstrated His love through a covenant with us, even though we are lacking and can never fully repay our debt. He promises us a place at His table, the King’s table, where He can show us His kindness. He was accused of sitting and eating with sinners (Matthew 9:10-17, Mark 2:15-22, Luke 5:29-39). Well, that’s just you and me. We all come just as we are in sin and love our darkness, and He, the light, not only exposes, but he delivers, transforms, and brings new life.He knocks at the door of our hearts and homes, saying that if we welcome Him, He will be with us, sharing and fellowshipping with us, providing His life and freedom from the sins that try to trap us in fear and these enemies that enslave us have to watch as we are welcomed and are loved and accepted and in deep fellowship with our Lord and those who he brings into our life.I have genuinely encountered the love of God through relationships, encounters, the revelation of His Word, His promises, and through the love and fellowship of others. Freely given and undeserved, He invites us to come to the table and share a meal with Him, just as He shares a meal with me.
